2018-2021 Competitive Parity through Financial Constraints of the American and European Sports Systems

TESM-S 423 Financial Principles in Sport

The paper aims to explore the concept of Competitive Parity within the American and European sports systems during the 2018-2021 seasons. The study will utilize primary and secondary research data, focusing on financial constraints imposed by Collective Bargaining Agreements and other financial regulations in these leagues. The objective is to analyze how these financial stipulations influenced teams' performance, enabling some to transition from underperforming to successful or from mid-tier to leading positions within a single season.

The primary goal of this research is to uncover potential solutions or changes that could enhance competitive parity between teams with vastly different financial resources. This study seeks to address the challenge of creating a level playing field between teams with budgets ranging from hundreds of millions of dollars to those restricted to a 25-75 million-dollar threshold due to various circumstances. The resulting report aims to demonstrate the author's ability to produce comprehensive and insightful analyses of critical aspects of sports industry team operations, which can be valuable for future employment opportunities.

Exploring the Dynamics of Rebranding in Major Sports Organizations and Its Impact on the Sales Process

TESM-S 301 Selling In The Sports Industry

In my honors project, I have written a comprehensive paper that explores the intricate dynamics of rebranding within major sports organizations and examines its significant impact on the sales process. This research integrates extensive literature reviews, case studies, and empirical analysis to thoroughly understand how rebranding transforms teams and organizations.

The paper begins by establishing a strong theoretical foundation through a detailed review of scholarly articles, academic journals, and relevant texts. This foundational research covers the framework surrounding rebranding strategies and sales processes within the sports industry. Essential concepts such as brand identity, brand equity, and the economic implications of rebranding on sales are dissected and analyzed.

To gain practical insights, the research includes multiple case studies of major sports organizations that have undergone rebranding. By examining real-world examples, the paper analyzes the motivations behind these rebranding efforts, the challenges faced, and the outcomes achieved. A comparative analysis of different instances of rebranding helps identify common patterns and unique strategies that contribute to successful rebranding and improved sales performance.

The study also gathers and analyzes quantitative and qualitative data related to sales performance before and after rebranding initiatives. This empirical analysis focuses on evaluating the direct and indirect effects of rebranding on sales, considering factors such as fan engagement, merchandise sales, and ticket sales.

The research culminates in a 5–7-page paper that provides a nuanced explanation of the findings, offering insights into the interplay between rebranding dynamics and sales processes within major sports organizations. The paper identifies effective strategies and best practices for sports organizations considering rebranding, sheds light on the motivations behind rebranding efforts and the common challenges encountered, and evaluates the impact of rebranding on various aspects of sales and organizational performance.

This research paper serves a dual purpose. It contributes to the academic understanding of rebranding in sports management, providing a valuable resource for future research. It also offers practical insights and advice for professionals working in the sports industry. By bridging theoretical concepts with real-life applications, the paper aspires to help sports business practitioners apply these insights in their everyday work, potentially influencing my future career in sports management.

Through this honors project, I have deepened my academic knowledge and gained practical insights into the dynamic relationship between rebranding and sales in the sports industry. This research has not only enhanced my understanding of sports management but also equipped me with valuable knowledge that can be applied in my future career endeavors.
